Calcium is a vital nutrient,
actually it could be said to be a life-sustaining nutrient
because it regulates the heart rhythm, helps to regulate the passage
of nutrients in and out of the cell walls, helps maintain proper
nerve and muscle function, aids in blood clotting, kidney function,
and blood pressure regulation. For puppies, calcium supplementation
can be a very tricky and dangerous undertaking. Calcium is needed to
build strong bones and teeth but too much calcium and not enough
phosphorus, or too much phosphorus and insufficient calcium can have
the opposite effect. A pure meat diet is one that contains too much
phosphorus resulting in poor calcium absorption.
In addition to calcium/phosphorus in the right
ratio, other minerals are needed for various functions of the body.
They are used in the skeleton (bones and teeth), muscles, glands,
body fluids and for correct functioning of the cells. Coral calcium
can be called a "complete food," because it occurs in nature with a
perfect ratio of 74 trace minerals including the all important
calcium/phosphorus. The body can absorb 95% of coral calcium as
compared to other calcium forms, like bone meal, where only 4-16% is
absorbed.
Experienced dog breeders and dog owners have
come to know that incorrect amounts of calcium/phosphorus is related
to bone deformities, but the number of diseases linked to other
mineral deficiencies is beyond imagining. For example, there is a
growing awareness that bloat may be linked to a deficiency of
potassium! The theory is that potassium deficiency causes an
intestinal paralysis that leads to bloat and gastric torsion.
Selenium deficiency has been linked to some
forms of cancer, and together with vitamin E, selenium has been used
successfully by veterinarians to remove cataracts from dogs. Zinc
deficiency causes various skin and coat problems, iodine is needed
for proper thyroid function, and iron, copper and cobalt are
essential for the production of normal red blood cells, and for the
synthesis of hemoglobin.
Our coral calcium is pure, unadulterated, as
it occurs in nature. We do not damage living coral reefs. There are
two parts to a coral reef—one part lies beneath the sea and serves
as home to myriad living sea creatures. We believe their home should
remain undisturbed! The above-ground portion of coral reefs is
actually fossilized reefs thousands of years old providing the same
rich mineral qualities as the living reef. We use the above ground
portion which leaves nature unharmed.
If you can be certain
that your pet’s diet is rich in all trace
minerals including calcium, then
you probably don’t need our product, but if you feed a commercial
dog food other than Great Life,
minerals are destroyed during heating and
processing; if you feed a raw or cooked food diet,
you need to make certain you are supplying all of
the minerals. Our coral calcium with 74 trace minerals should be
added to your pet’s diet. Our calcium is void of excessive heavy
metals and is environmental friendly.
